Tricks, Treats and PDX Drinks

When October arrives, Portland throws down the Halloween revelry like no other city! Some family-oriented fall activities we shared in a previous post, but below, we’ve picked out some of our favorite examples of “spirited” Halloween events in PDX expressly for those ages 21 and up.

Happy Hour at Altabira City Tavern
Daily, 4 – 6 p.m.
1021 NE Grand Ave, Sixth Floor
Start your evening early by heading to Altabira’s happy hour on the rooftop on our hotel and enjoy a full selection of noshes and sips at great prices. Settle in and take in city views from the patio in the heart of Lloyd. Then map out the rest of the night for what lurks ahead in town! Several boozy events take place from Oct. 26-31. No costume? Come as you are!

Sip Wine in the “Cave” at Pullman Wine Bar
Daily, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
401 NE Holladay Street
This just-opened hub for wine enthusiasts, located on the street level of our hotel, allows guests to sip on small tastes (thanks to a special wine preservation system), by the glass, bottle or even purchase a case for later! In-house experts can help you find your next favorite wine while you taste local and global selections alongside a light bites menu. To set the tone for spooky fun, sip in the wine-cave-inspired room (seats 24) with lights dimmed low and Halloween spirits high!

Portland Boo Cruise aboard the Portland Spirit
Oct. 26 (Sat.), 11 p.m. – 1 a.m.
Salmon Street Springs Fountain, 1020 SW Naito Pkwy
Equal parts fright, fun and rock, Generator takes the stage for a Halloween party to wake the dead! Dance, revel and enjoy sparkling city skylines aboard this spirited cruise. Costumes are encouraged with a costume contest and prizes. Boards 10:30 pm, starts at $45 per person (includes cruise and entertainment). Food and full bar purchases available aboard. Bollywood Thriller Halloween Costume Party
Oct. 26 (Sat.), 10 p.m. – 2 a.m.
Whiskey Bar, 31 NW 1st Ave
This musical mashup performance of a Bollywood wedding song and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” has transformed into a subculture over the years. Many attendees learn the choreography on site alongside the Jai Ho! Dance Troupe and perform with hosts Prashant and Brittany. Hundreds come out to win big prizes in the costume competition in what’s billed as “North America’s most flamboyant festival, Bollywood style!” Other perks: henna by donation, dance performances, and a midnight flash mob. $8-10 adv. /$15 door. Tickets

OMSI After Dark: Spirits
Oct. 30 (Wed.), 6 p.m.
Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, 1945 SE Water Ave, Portland
Ghosts, goblins, and whiskey, oh my! OMSI After Dark lines up local distilleries, unleashing their spirits at this event! Taste the difference between grain and potato vodka at this 8th annual spirits tasting. Costumes encouraged! Also enjoy science demos, presentations, artisans, and vendors. Advance tickets strongly recommended. Admission is $15-35 depending on tasting level (discounts for OMSI members). Tickets.

Barcrawlerz “Trick or Drink” Portland Halloween Crawl
Choose from Oct. 26 (Sat.) 4 p.m. – 2 a.m. or Oct. 31 (Thurs.) 6 p.m. – 2 a.m.
Santé Bar, 411 NW Park Ave.
