Portland Rainy Day Activities

Posted on:

The rumors are true, rain is common during Portland winters, but locals don’t let that stop them from having fun – and neither should you! Take a look at some of our suggestions on how to stay dry and enjoy those rainy days in PDX during your stay at our luxury Portland hotel.

  1. Get Cultured. When the rain hits, head to the nearest art gallery or museum. There are plenty of them located just a short drive from our Portland hotel, including the impressive and engaging Portland Art Museum and Oregon Historical Society. Smaller exhibits and galleries in the Pearl District, Old Town, and downtown offer culture-infused safe havens during storms.
  2. See a Serene Scene. Though it’s outside, the Lan Su Chinese Garden is a year-round wonder. This authentic Ming Dynasty-style garden in the heart of the city is peaceful and welcoming in any weather. Covered walkways and the beautiful teahouse provide sheltered views of the central lake. The Portland Japanese Garden is also a fantastic place to spend a rainy day. Zip up your raincoat and peruse the garden as water droplets shimmer on sculpted shrubs and sprinkle on the koi pond.
  3. Catch a Flick. A rainy day is a perfect excuse to head inside for a movie. With award season here, there are plenty of acclaimed films to watch and Portland is full of independent movie theaters serving up locally brewed beer and perfectly buttered popcorn. Our favorite? Hollywood Theatre, which is just an eight-minute car ride from our boutique Portland hotel.
  4. Read the Day Away. Rain or shine, it’s easy to spend an entire day checking out the seemingly endless shelves at Powell’s City of Books. Taking up an entire city block, Powell’s contains more than 1 million books and tasty in-store coffee to help fuel your browsing session. Libraries more your thing? Explore more than 17 miles of bookshelves (that’s 875 tons of books!) in downtown Portland’s Central Library. This charming book haven first opened in 1913 and is worth a trip just to see its interesting Georgian-style architecture.

Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, a stay at our Portland boutique hotel means you’ll be close to the best destinations, restaurants, and things to do in Portland. The team at Hotel Eastlund looks forward to helping you discover our beautiful city.
