Keeping Portland Weird
“Keep Portland Weird” is not just our city’s unofficial motto; it’s our way of life! Creativity, nonconformity, eclecticism…whatever you want to call it, there’s no denying that there’s something about Portland that brings out the “weird” in all of us. If you’re searching for some Portland rainy day activities, here are a few ways you can keep things weird near our luxury Portland hotel.
Weird Events. To truly understand how the locals keep Portland kooky, look no further than the strange events they host each year. From quirky, to downright bizarre, there’s a weird event for everyone. We recommend checking out World Naked Bike Ride, Quiet Music Festival, PDX Adult Soapbox Derby, and SantaCon, among others.
Weird Museums. Portland’s collection of odd museums will leave you with more memories than any mainstream gallery could. One of our favorites is the Freakybuttrue Peculiarium, full of creepy-fun exhibits like Al Capone’s safe, an alien autopsy table, plus original artwork and ice cream, because who doesn’t like ice cream? Also noteworthy are The National Hat Museum and Ping Pong’s Pint Size Puppet Museum.
Weird Workouts. Are you bored with Bikram? Spice up your yoga practice by adding some animal therapy. That’s right, you can find Goat Yoga, a trendy global phenomenon that started in 2016, just 40-minutes south of Portland in Oregon City. During this hour-long vinyasa class, friendly goats can roam around, nuzzle up to you, and may even hop up on your back. On weekends, upgrade to an afternoon of class followed by wine tasting at Ruby Vineyards in Hillsboro.
Weird Eats. For one-of-a-kind wacky treats, head to Voodoo Doughnut, a two-location doughnut shop that attracts customers with unusual creations like their Mango Tango, a raised-yeast shell filled with mango jelly, topped with vanilla frosting and Tang. Perhaps you’re in the mood for a drink instead, head to one of Portland’s many themed bars, including Hale Pele, Funhouse Lounge, Ground Kontrol, or The Lovecraft Bar.
Weird Shopping. Whether you’re curious about crystals, dreaming of a new divination deck, or searching for a supernatural-smelling bar of soap, there are plenty of shops in Portland’s “Mystic District” that will meet your needs. Seagrape Soap, Brown Bear Herbs, and Sugar Mountain Vintage are our favorites.
Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, a stay at our Portland boutique hotel means you’ll be close to the best destinations, restaurants, and things to do in Portland. The team at Hotel Eastlund looks forward to helping you discover our beautiful city.
