The Perfect Portland Staycation

Posted on:

Summer is here, which means it’s time to get out of the house and remember why Portland is one of the most popular destinations in the U.S. You don’t have to be a tourist to experience PDX with fresh eyes – even lifelong Portlanders can appreciate the never-ending list of things to do, see, eat and drink in this city. Read below for our guide to the perfect Portland “staycation”, because sometimes your own city is the ideal place to spend your summer!

Stay
Start with a stay at the finest boutique hotel in Portland, Hotel Eastlund. Indulge yourself in sleek sophistication paired with Northwest hospitality. Conveniently located in the heart of downtown Portland’s Eastside, a stay at Hotel Eastlund ensures you’ll be close to all the city has to offer while enjoying full-service luxury and first-class amenities including valet parking, free Wi-Fi, a 24-hour text concierge service and more!

Do
Get lost in literature at Powell’s Books, the world’s largest independent bookstore. With over one million books covering a full downtown block, we’re guessing there are corners of Powell’s that have yet to be perused!

Experience Portland like a true local – by bike! With the Willamette River running through the city, Portland is filled with beautiful, one-of-a-kind bridges that are fun to explore on wheels. There are plenty of downtown bike tour companies that can show you the ropes or you can rent a bike yourself and get pedaling.

See
Take a stroll through Forest Park to officially earn your “tree hugger” badge. This gorgeous nature retreat is the largest wooded urban park in the United States, filled with more than 70 miles of walking and hiking trails and more.

During World War I, a Portland resident convinced the local government to set up a rose test garden to preserve the species of European roses that might be destroyed, and we’re so grateful! Don’t miss the stunning International Rose Test Garden, where you can stop and smell the roses (7,000 bushes of them!) from April–October and see why Portland is aptly nicknamed the City of Roses.

Eat
These days, Portland has become synonymous with food trucks. The trucks can be found clustered in different spots around town so if you’re hungry enough, we suggest truck hopping to try some of the city’s best offerings. From delicious Thai dishes to goulashes, the options are endless and your taste buds will be thanking you.

If there’s one thing Portlander’s embrace more than keeping their city “weird”, it’s their love of doughnuts! Locals and tourists alike know a trip to the city isn’t complete without a delicious doughnut (or a dozen!) from Voodoo Donuts.

Drink
With over 100 breweries in the Portland area, there’s a reason Portland is known as Beervana. Hop into the beer scene at our own Altabira City Tavern, where you’ll find a wide variety of draft beer sourced from local, small-scale producers.

When you stay at our Portland luxury hotel, you’ll never miss out on the best destinations, dining spots and events Portland has to offer. Whether you’re at Hotel Eastlund as a tourist or a local, we look forward to making your stay a memorable one this summer!
